Medicaid/Medical References
Immediate medical care is important to you and your baby’s health. We provide reliable and current referrals and assistance with Medicaid, prenatal care, STI/STD testing, child birth and postnatal care. You may be having these questions, which we can answer:
How Do I Get Prenatal Care? I Don’t Have Medical Insurance.
Our Medicaid referral provides you with personal, one-on-one help in getting Medicaid activated, so you can start medical prenatal care in your first trimester. Our Medical referrals include family health clinics and physicians who accept Medicaid, as well as other health insurance.
If I Am Living With My Boyfriend, Can I Use His Health Insurance?
You can use the health insurance of the man you are living with, if you both file a one-page “Declaration and Registration of Informal Marriage” form with the county clerk’s office where you live. This is a common law marriage which fully binding by law and enables you to receive all the rights and benefits of a legal spouse (see Section 2.401 and 2.402 of the Texas Family Code).
What If I Need A STI/STD Test?
If you should want comprehensive STI/STD testing, we have a referral for this local service that accepts patients on a sliding scale ability to pay, right in Smith County.
I Have Never Had A Baby. I Don’t Know What To Do?
We understand, we are here to help you. Trotter House has many educational online videos and resources about pregnancy and delivery, breast feeding, nutrition, and postnatal care that you will watch and discuss with your TH advocate. We help you identify your specific needs and then make a plan to meet those needs each week.
When the time comes for you to have your baby, we have agencies we work closely with to provide the mother options regarding her birth plan for her baby.
What Happens After My Baby Is Born?
Trotter House works with you after the birth of your baby to continue to support and guide you in this new chapter of life. Through our Baby Boutique, free online courses and additional organizations we partner with, we can provide you with what you need to raise your child up to 2 years old. Go to our Life Skill Program and Boutique for more information.
